History of the Otaru Branch

History up to now, from opening otaru branch
1893 Apr. The Bank of Japan substation in Otaru is established and starts business.
1897 Nov. The substation is upgraded to sub-branch.
1900   A laboratory for analyzing gold dust is founded at the Otaru sub-branch; purchasing of gold dust begins.
1906 Aug. The sub-branch is upgraded to the Bank of Japan Otaru Branch.
1909 Jul. Image: museum building under construction with temporary roof coveringConstruction of a new building begins.
1912 Jul. Image: exterior of the Otaru Museum building, then the Otaru Branch, right after the completion of constructionConstruction work on the new building is completed.
1928   Purchasing of gold dust at the Otaru Branch is discontinued; the analytical laboratory is shut down.
2002 Sept. The Bank of Japan Otaru Branch is closed down, and its business is transferred to the Sapporo Branch.
2003 May The Bank of Japan Otaru Museum opens.
