History of the Otaru Branch
      
        
        History up to now, from opening otaru branch
          
            | 1893 | Apr. | The Bank of Japan substation in Otaru is established and starts business. | 
          
            | 1897 | Nov. | The substation is upgraded to sub-branch. | 
          
            | 1900 |  | A laboratory for analyzing gold dust is founded at the Otaru sub-branch; purchasing of gold dust begins. | 
          
            | 1906 | Aug. | The sub-branch is upgraded to the Bank of Japan Otaru Branch. | 
          
            | 1909 | Jul. |  Construction of a new building begins. | 
          
            | 1912 | Jul. |  Construction work on the new building is completed. | 
          
            | 1928 |  | Purchasing of gold dust at the Otaru Branch is discontinued; the analytical laboratory is shut down. | 
          
            | 2002 | Sept. | The Bank of Japan Otaru Branch is closed down, and its business is transferred to the Sapporo Branch. | 
          
            | 2003 | May | The Bank of Japan Otaru Museum opens. |
